A
number of waterfront condominium and apartment complexes have
been built in what is now called South Beach
near the west-end of the Bay Bridge, along the Embarcadero from
Market Street to 3rd Street. In addition, many of the old red
brick buildings built during the area's industrial days, including
the former Hills Brothers Coffee building, have been or are
being strengthened against earthquakes and turned into offices,
restaurants and hotels. Residents can walk to work in the nearby
Financial District and downtown.
