Fillmore
Street, shared by both Pacific Heights and Western
Addition, now caters to the chic as well as practical shoppers.
Upper Fillmore, part of neighboring Pacific Heights, is lined
with exclusive clothing and home stores, vintage clothing shops,
trendy restaurants, and an art film house. Upscale chain stores
are ever-present. Lower Fillmore is home to a multiplex theater,
cheap restaurants, and dozens of stores meeting more everyday
needs. Remnants of the Fillmore District's 1940's music scene
continue today with the famous Fillmore Auditorium, John Lee
Hooker's Boom Boom Room, and Rassela's Jazz Club.
Lower Pacific Heights, located roughly between
California Street, Presidio Avenue, Van Ness Avenue, Geary Boulevard,
was previously considered to be part of the Western Addition
until realtors tagged it with the catchier name of Lower Pacific
Heights. The area does differ from the bulk of the Western Addition
in that it is hilly and the rents are high.
